Our final award to give away at the mid-season mark is the 2016 Mid-Season Top Manager. This was a very difficult decision for us and took a lot of back and forth. There was some angry words said, feelings hurt and maybe a hug or two shared. In the end though we decided the award should go to Don Mattingly of the Miami Marlins.
The 2015 Marlins, with a very similar roster, finished the season with a 71-91 record and 19 games out of the divisional race, but in 2016 things have changed. Don Mattingly has lead the Marlins to a 47-41 record through 88 games and the team is sitting only 6 games back of the Nationals in the division. On top of that if the season were to finish today they would earn themselves the second wild card in the National League. With the Mets struggling and a young offensive that can put runs up on most teams the Marlins sit in a position to make a run at the playoffs. Now, not all of that is because of their skipper Mattingly, but we feel he has made a significant difference in that organization. We look forward to seeing what he can do the rest of the season.
