Now that the All-Star game is behind us and the second half of the MLB season is just two days away we thought it would be the perfect time to announce our pick for the 2016 Mid-Season MVP.
Our choice is none other than Ian Desmond. Desmond was coming off a 2015 that he surely would like to forget. He had a career low batting average and seemed to be on the downside of his career. Because of his poor performance he had to sign a one year deal for 2016 with the Texas Rangers and what a bargain that deal was for them. Not only has Desmond adjusted to playing for a new team, but also has had to learn a new position (make that two new positions as he has now become the every day center fielder after starting the year in left field). All that he has taken in stride and is having a career year. Desmond holds down the second spot in the Rangers batting order and has compiled a .322/.375/.524 slash line with 15 home runs and 15 stolen bases. With stars like Prince Fielder struggling this season to get in to their groove Desmond has been the glue that holds this lineup together. Desmond's achievements are not just in the offensive categories either. He has only made three errors on the season, a .971 fielding percentage and has tied his career high WAR at 3.9. It is easy to see why we have named Ian Desmond as our 2016 Mid-Season MVP. |
